The importance of proper maintenance

A ventilation system is there for your comfort and convenience. If all goes well, you will hardly notice that your system is working to maintain the indoor climate in your home. As a result, you can easily forget about getting it checked out too. However, for the system to function properly in the long term, it is crucial to maintain it regularly.

Service engineers see it regularly: an almost overheated system that is roaring and hardly ventilates at all. In most cases, lack of maintenance is to blame. Inside the HRV-installation, considerable contamination can occur due to dust (clothing, floating dust, or dirt in the house) and/or not changing filters on time. This blockage forces the system to work harder and harder to ventilate the house properly. That increases both power consumption and decibels significantly.

You can often tell how smoothly the system works by the sound. Another indicator is a musty smell in the house. It becomes more humid inside because the air is less quickly drained. That quickly creates a hotbed for mould, bacteria, and dust mites. That is something to be avoided at all costs, given its impact on the respiratory system and overall health.

Preventing is better than curing

When which maintenance?

The following applies to all HRV ventilation systems:

Annually

Recommended basic cleaning + 2 times filter replacement*. A service engineer cleans and checks the primary parts of your installation in a short half-hour. That is best alternated with extensive maintenance every other year, see below.

*When you order filters with the service, they will be sent in advance.

Bi-annually

Comprehensive maintenance of approximately one hour: extensive cleaning including grills and valves, checking bearings, heat exchanger, condensation hose, attachment points, and readjustment of the system. This way, your installation remains in great condition.

After 7 or 8 years

All-in, very comprehensive maintenance including cleaning drain and supply channels. Over time, more and more dust, mould and flakes remain in the drains. Therefore, it is necessary to have ventilation ducts cleaned at least once every 7 to 8 years (halfway through their lifespan).
